I haven't been there yet, but apparently there is quite a bit of anime stuff available in the area. If you're not going to Tokyo, it wouldn't hurt to stop buy a tourist office when you first arrive and ask about places where you can buy manga, anime, and related items. That's how I found the little anime shop in Sendai where I bought some stuff. Maybe in Akihabara? I haven’t been there yet, but apparently there is quite a bit of anime stuff available in the area.
